DESIGNED IN BELGIUM
The SSX-823 is a competition race car kit, designed by a talented team of designers and engineers based in Olen, Belgium. Their knowledge, experience, and passion for excellence have been fully applied to the creation of this masterpiece. The design directive was clear-no compromises in corner speed, acceleration, adaptability to various tracks, or ease of maintenance. Simple yet innovative touches like access portals that provide easy access for wrenches or other tools allow adjustments or disassembly without affecting surrounding sub-assemblies. This thoughtful approach results in a race car that is not only a pleasure to drive but enjoyable to set up and maintain. The SSX-823 took the successful SSX8 platform and made it even better.
Supreme expression of perfection pushed to the limit!
LOW CENTER OF GRAVITY DESIGN WITH PERFECT BALANCE
With the SSX-823, a low center of gravity design was a primary focus point. Everything on the chassis was kept as low as possible. For example, front bulkheads and the motor are positioned lower in the chassis. However, as most racers know, a low center of gravity is not the most critical design aspect. The proper distribution of weight across the chassis, overall balance around the chassis centerline and the proper weight at ride height to achieve ideal chassis balance front-to-rear and side-to-side are just as critical. The SSX-823 excels in this task to deliver a nicely balanced pressure on all 4 corners of the car. To achieve this chassis balance, Team Corally recommends using 2S “long” hardcase LiPo batteries for the proper weight and balance of the car. (Batteries from 300 – 330gr each)
AEROSPACE QUALITY CARBON FIBER
Team Corally employs only top grade aerospace-certified quasi-isotropic carbon graphite material to produce chassis components for the SSX-823. Each and every part has been thoughtfully and meticulously engineered to provide the desired flex and strength at each specific location on the chassis, all while reducing weight. Every single gram of weight savings converts directly into improved acceleration and corner speed.
ADJUSTABLE CHASSIS FLEX
Robust carbon chassis side braces are located on both sides of the SSX-823 chassis plate and mounted using four aluminium posts on each side. Loosening to top screws increases lateral chassis flex, which improves handling on loose or bumpy racetracks. For smooth, high-bite surfaces a stiffer, more rigid approach offers quicker changes of direction and corner exit traction.
DUAL 2S LIPO BATTERY TRAY
Development and testing have determined that the best setup is two regular-length 2S hardcase Lipo packs placed side-by-side. The battery tray dimensions (94.5mm wide and 140mm long) are intended for use with batteries no more than 28mm tall and weighing between 300-330g each. Should taller packs be desired, the electronics tray can be raised (using spacers, not included) at a slight decrease in handling.
Team Corally offers two perfect battery packs for the SSX-823 (C-49523 and C-49623), and both LiPo and LiHV packs are suitable depending on local rules.
RACING FEATURES
The SSX-823 offers thoughtful details that separate great designs from good designs.
• Dual Fan Mounting Plate: Designed to secure two 30mm cooling fans to maximize motor performance and reliability.
• Rear Nerf Wings: Protect rear tires, spur gear, and axle in case of a racing incident.
• Transponder Mount: Located strategically in the forward part of the chassis and specifically-designed for current MyLaps transponders.
• Grab Handle: A convenient two-finger handle allows convenient grasp of the car without damage or creasing of the bodyshell.
• Electronic Mount Plate: The ESC and RX are perfectly positioned for balance and ease of access thanks to the SSX-823’s mounting platform.
UNIVERSAL BODY MOUNTING
The SSX-823 body mounting system allows for convenient fitment of a wide range of racing bodies, including today’s high-downforce, low-nose designs. The front body mounts are located on the optimized bumper to eliminate any negative influence on front suspension travel and deliver the lowest possible body mounting position and front wheel protection. The rear mount provides three distinct body post locations for ideal downforce, with additional rear body support offered by outboard adjustable nylon post bolts.
OPTIMIZED FRONT SUSPENSION
The front suspension on the SSX-823 has been completely re-designed. All components have been lightened considerably while retaining the strength and rigidity needed to create a precisely steerable front end. The front bulkheads are vertically split and oriented lower compared to the SSX-8. As a result, the center of gravity is lower, the axle centerline is lower, the lowest aerodynamic bodies are able to be mounted extraordinarily low on the chassis. The amount of lateral (pendulum) movement of the front suspension can easily be changed by using 2 adjustment nuts. Small springs or O-rings can be interchanged to obtain the perfect level of pendulum travel for any track conditions. The pivot balls used in the front hubs are standard size and mounted in precision aluminum perches. Because the body mount on the SSX-823 is secured to the bumper independently of the front suspension, the front end pendulum movement is not limited in any manner by the body.
ADJUSTABLE FRONT PENDULUM EFFECT
The front end assembly of the SSX-823 is infinitely adjustable thanks to the interchangeable use of springs or O-rings. Track surface and grip levels will dictate the optimum choice and setting for this feature.
PRECISION PIVOT-BALL FRONT END
The SSX-823 uses the competition-proven pivot ball style front steering blocks, allowing for precise, simple, and convenient adjustments for both track width and camber. A precisely machined steel pivot ball is securely nestled in an aluminum perch with an additional jam nut against the upper and lower mounting blocks for added security. Ride height and roll centers are easily adjustable by flipping the aluminum mounting blocks.
CONVENIENT CASTER ADJUSTMENT
Adjusting caster is one of the most effective handling adjustments for any R/C car, with increased caster aiding in corner entry speed, while decreased caster improves mid-corner and corner exit performance. Making adjustments to the SSX-823 between 5, 10, or 15 degrees caster is achieved easily by removal and re-installation of four screws.
ADJUSTABLE ACKERMANN
The simple yet innovative adjustable Ackermann feature on the SSX-823 allows quick and precise adjustments to this useful tuning aid. Ackermann effect can be increased or decreased, controlling the angle of both front wheels as they enter a turn. Sensitivity and corner speed can be optimized with the correct Ackermann setting, which can be adjusted simply with three screws.
QUICK RELEASE FRONT AXLE
Team Corally designers have not only thought about outright performance, they have also made the SSX-823 easy to maintain for today’s racer. To allow for quick maintenance of the front drivetrain or to quickly replace the front an axle, the front bulkheads are designed to split vertically. By simply loosening a few screws, the entire front axle lifts out of the car without need to disassemble other critical parts or touch your chassis setup.
Extra lightweight bulkheads are machined from 7075 T6 aluminum, and whereas Where the SSX-8X used 8mm wide aluminum front bulkheads, the SSX-823 features ultra-lightweight 7075 T6 aluminum bulkheads with a reduced 6mm width. As you can see, each and every part has been optimized to deliver maximum strength while still reducing weight. All parts are hard anodized for increased surface strength and feature an attractive black matte finish, creating a chassis that is a pleasure to look at.
RIGID REAR END ASSEMBLY
The SSX-823 achieves an optimized stiffness thanks to a central stiffener plate. Mounted securely just in front of the rear bulkheads/motor mount area, the front of the plate is supported by a silicone bushing and adjusted easily with a locknut, allowing the chassis to flex laterally without being adversely affected by the battery packs.
QUICK RELEASE REAR AXLE
Team Corally designers have not only thought about outright performance, they have also made the SSX-823 easy to maintain for today’s racer. To allow for quick maintenance of the rear drivetrain or to quickly replace the axle, rear bulkheads are designed to split vertically. By simply loosening a few screws, the entire axle assembly conveniently lifts out of the car without need to disassemble other critical parts or touch your chassis setup.
Extra lightweight bulkheads are machined from 7075 T6 aluminum, and whereas Where the SSX-8X used 8mm wide aluminum rear bulkheads, the SSX-823 features ultra-lightweight 7075 T6 aluminum bulkheads with a reduced 6mm width. As you can see, each and every part has been optimized to deliver maximum strength while still reducing weight. All parts are hard anodized for increased surface strength and feature an attractive black matte finish, creating a chassis that is a pleasure to look at.
EXTRA SMOOTH, LOW-FRICTION DRIVE BELT
A 6mm low-friction drive belt is a critical component of the SSX-823’s efficient, quiet, and buttery-smooth drivetrain. In addition to the simple yet efficient ball bearing-equipped rear belt tensioner, the carbon front belt guard assures proper belt/pulley orientation and securement.
PRECISION FRONT CVD DRIVESHAFTS, AXLES, AND DRIVE CUPS
The front drive system of the SSX-823 arrives fully-featured with exceptionally precise, high-quality S2 spring steel CVD shafts. Allowing for a more efficient transfer of power by reducing friction under steering angle loads, they are infinitely more efficient compared to traditional dogbones. Specifically hardened for low friction and minimal wear, CVD system used by Team Corally is also 20% lighter than used on the previous model. Combined with lightweight, hardened steel outdrive cups, handling and acceleration are improved thanks to a reduction in rotating weight.
FRONT ONE WAY
The one-piece front drive axle on the SSX-823 contains internal, aerospace-quality precision one-way bearings on each side to accept the outdrive cups. The front one-way assembly is one of the more critical assemblies on a 1/8 scale pan car, as off-power the front wheels must rotate as frictionless as possible in order to optimize traction and corner entry speed.
32DP SPUR GEAR
The SSX-823 features a composite, 32 pitch spur gear in place of the traditional Mod 1 system. This innovative approach allows for a smaller diameter spur gear to increase ground clearance and reduce the risk of damage from debris or corner curbs. The use of 32DP allows for a wide range of possible gear rations to fine-tune the speed, acceleration, and run time to your specific racetrack. The table below illustrates recommended options based on your specific motor choice.
COMPOSITE AXLE BEARING INSERTS
Precision nylon composite bearing inserts are used on both front and rear axles of the SSX-823. This proven method delivers improved bearing/axle alignment and protection for the aerospace-quality 12 x 21 x 5 ball bearings to ensure a silky-smooth, drag-free drivetrain.
ACCEPTS INDUSTRY-STANDARD FRONT AND REAR FOAM TYRES
The SSX-823 accepts industry-standard, quick-change 1/8 scale nylon wheels and foam tires for the ultimate in convenience, product availability, and tuning options.
Team Corally offers specific, pre-trued tires for the SSX-823.
