At the end of WWI, when Poland regained independence and access to the sea, the Polish Navy was established. The Navy had no ships, so efforts were made with Allied committees to participate in allocation of ex-central powers' ships. Eventually, on 9 December 1919 Poland was granted just six small torpedo boats. These included two twin-funnel "V" type torpedo boats built in 1917 by Vulcan shipyards at Stettin (now Szczecin) against an order of the Royal Dutch Navy: the V-105 renamed Mazur and the V-108 renamed Kaszub. In 1931, ORP Mazur was modernized. When WWII broke out ORP Mazur was anchored at Gdynia-Oksywie.
